Meet Our Family

Brad (the dad) plays rhythm guitar & sings lead and harmonies with the family band. He also serves as the band director, sound technician, music producer, etc… Brad loves bluegrass music, and everything involved with the band.   When he is not working, doing music, or finishing a house project, he loves outdoor sports – especially fishing.  Brad also loves a challenge at table tennis and can’t resist playing most games that involve a ball.  Foreign languages have always been a favorite hobby, with Russian the latest challenge.   Brad makes it a priority to lead the family in Bible study devotions, and provides for his family as Finance Director for ISAM, for which we are truly grateful.

Denise (the mom) does a variety of things with our band including: playing the harmonica, the Irish drum, a few vocals and interpreting some songs in sign language.  She keeps us well-fed and properly dressed for performances… she is the glue which holds everything together!  She has home educated the children from the beginning and has done a terrific job. Denise loves to cook for our household of ten people with Brad’s parents residing beside us.  The family is blessed with the job of eating her culinary art creations.  Stop in for her “Mama’s Soup Surprise!” (The soup ingredients are sung on our first CD).  Downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, biking and hiking are some of her favorite pastimes. She has a passion for good books and daily reads with our children.  Denise has antennas for people from other cultures and she is not shy about dabbling with foreign languages.  She is grateful for His abundant life!   John 10:10  “… I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

Isaac, born in 1991, provides the rhythm for the band with his steady bass-playing, and adds some bass singing to our harmonies. Isaac will be graduating in Dec., 2013 from the University of Wisconsin – River Falls with a double major in Accounting and Spanish.   will be employed as an Auditor as of January 2014  for PwC -Price Waterhouse Coopers in Minneapolis.   It is always a highlight when Isaac visits home.  His younger brothers are ready to tackle him in a game of football or to play catch.  Isaac loves playing sports!  He also ups the competition in family board games.   We are grateful for his dedication to the Lord.  “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”  3 John 1:4

Lucas, born in 1993, plays the Whiz-Bang and brings ample smiles to our family’s concerts with his horns, whistles, and funny sounds. He also helps us tremendously behind the scenes. Lucas has a passion for science.  His favorite courses at present are  Horticulture and Biotechnology.  Lucas enjoys strategy games and nature hikes.  He is a nurturing brother to his younger siblings.  Lucas means “light” which is displayed in his character as he cares for the elderly, the disabled and the less fortunate.   Lucas recently memorized Psalm 139.  Verse 14  is especially meaningful:  “I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are Thy works…”

AnaLise, born in 1995, is our social butterfly. She got the family started on bluegrass music and plays the mandolin, octave mandolin, ukulele,  fiddle, tenor banjo and guitar and is a featured vocalist singing lead and harmony. AnaLise is an avid reader and enjoys authors such as Charles Dickens, C.S. Lewis and John Piper.  When she’s not working hard on her academics, AnaLise can often be found writing songs with a guitar in hand, or engaging in anything competitive – especially ping-pong!  She also enjoys teaching  her violin students, playing sports and board games with family and friends, down-hill skiing,  baking, singing, traveling, square dancing, acting, meeting new people, and studying Russian. AnaLise is a deep thinker and reflects her love for Jesus in her poetry.  AnaLise’s compassion for people is a special anointing from the Lord.

Tessa is a creative and spunky teenager born in 1998.  She is one of our main vocalists that plays the fiddle, banjo and dobro.  She loves to play a good match of ping-pong or play group sports like volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee and down-hill skiing.  Some of her more creative outlets are jewelry making, hair styling and gardening.  Tessa is busy with school along with her music.  Her favorite subject is Chemistry.  She has done a little bit with foreign languages, and is currently dabbling with Russian. Tessa has a passion for the Lord, and displays that throughout our family band ministry.

Jacob, born in 2001, is learning the upright bass.  Jacob’s current hobbies include:    designing a remote control airplane, trapping, archery, and fishing.    He has an eye for nature and for sketching.  Jacob has a gentle spirit, but don’t be fooled by his shyness…  he truly loves to chat at home!    He summarized his faith recently when he exclaimed, “Jesus has changed my life!”

Jonas, born in 2004, adds much life to our home.  He enjoys books and sports.  He has a vivid imagination.  Jonas is effervescent!  He adds an exclamation point to his pursuits, especially  in his participation in any type of athletic endeavor.  He often reminds us of a circus master announcing, “Ladies and Gentlemen, May I have your attention please?”   Jonas can often be seen doing cartwheels or ready with his catcher’s mitt on a moment’s notice.     Jonas adds much spice to life!
